在購買食品時，我們都會特別留意一下食物的保質期有多久，是否新鮮，以免買到過期的商品。

“保質期”指產品的最佳食用期，可以翻譯為：

best-before date

shelf life

expiration date

freshness date

表示“the length of time that a product, especially food, can be kept in a shop before it becomes too old to be sold or used”。

超出保質期的食品即“過期食品”，可以翻譯為“expired food”。

下面是一些食品日期的英文小知識，一起來學習吧?

best before

best before后面跟上日期，顯示的是食用此食品最佳的時間。多用于速凍、干貨或罐頭食品，如果帶有這個字樣的食品就算日期過了也可以吃，只不過就不是最新鮮的時候了。

shelf life

“貨架期，保存期，保質期”，一般用單數，表示商品（尤其是食品）在變質之前保存在商店或者家里的時長。

have a shelf life of...保存期是...，保質期是...

例句：

新鮮水果的保質期很短。

Fresh fruit has a very short shelf life.

production/ manufacturing date

production date生產日期

manufacturing date生產日期

product是生產，manufacturing的原型是manufacture，意思是制造，所以production date和manufacturing date都是生產日期。

durability

durability /d?r??b?l?ti/ period有效期，耐用期

durability的含義是使用年限，所以有效期是durability period。

expiration date

expiration指到期、（一段時間的）結束，前面講過，過期食品可以表達為expired food。保質期、截止日期可以用expiration date來表示。

sell-by date

sell-by date指保質期、最晚銷售日期。
